Frequently asked questions
What to expect when you work with The Second Draft.
You do not need to have everything organised before getting in touch. These answers explain the service, its boundaries and how the process works.
Do you write the communication for me?
Support can involve reviewing what you have written, rewriting a draft with you, or creating a new draft from the information you provide. The agreed approach will depend on what you need.
Will it still sound like me?
Yes. The aim is to strengthen your voice, not replace it. Tone and language are shaped around you, the recipient and the purpose of the communication.
What types of communication can you help with?
Important emails, letters, complaints, replies, requests, appeals, meeting preparation, SEND correspondence and other situations where the wording really matters.
Is this legal advice or legal representation?
No. The Second Draft provides writing and communication support. It does not give legal advice, interpret the law for you or act as a legal representative.
Can you guarantee that my complaint, request or appeal will succeed?
No. Clear communication can improve understanding and strengthen how a case is presented, but the decision remains with the recipient or relevant organisation.
How much information should I send?
Begin with a short outline, the deadline and what you hope to achieve. Please do not send large quantities of sensitive documents until the scope and secure handling arrangements have been discussed.
How is the price decided?
Standard guide prices are shown on the Pricing page. The final cost is confirmed before work starts and may vary where the material is unusually long, complex, urgent or outside the standard scope.
How quickly can you complete the work?
Timescales depend on availability and complexity. Include any firm deadline in your first email. Urgent work cannot always be accepted.
How many revisions are included?
The agreed scope will state what refinement is included. A typical piece of work includes one agreed round of refinement unless confirmed otherwise.
Do you work with organisations as well as individuals?
Yes. I can also help schools, charities, parent groups and small organisations with sensitive emails, policies, updates, funding bids and award entries.
Do you use artificial intelligence?
Every final piece of client work is personally reviewed and shaped using human judgement. Any tools used to support drafting or administration do not replace professional review, and confidential information is not knowingly entered into public tools without an appropriate basis and agreement.
What happens if the service is not suitable for my situation?
You will be told honestly where the request falls outside the service or requires a regulated professional. See What I Don’t Do.
Still unsure? A simple email is enough to begin.
