How it works

A straightforward process from complexity to clarity.

You do not need a polished explanation or perfectly organised evidence before making contact. The first step is simply explaining what is happening.

01

Send a short enquiry

Explain the situation in a few sentences, who the communication is for, what outcome you need and any deadline. Do not send highly sensitive or extensive documents at this stage.

02

Suitability and scope

I will consider whether the service is appropriate, what information would be needed and whether the deadline is realistic. Where legal, medical, safeguarding or other specialist advice is required, I will explain the boundary.

03

Written quote and agreement

You receive a clear description of the work, timescale, price and any included changes. Nothing begins until we have agreed it together.

04

Share the relevant information

You provide the material needed for the agreed work. Only information relevant to the task should be shared, and original documents should be retained by you.

05

Drafting or review

I review the situation and create or strengthen the communication, focusing on purpose, evidence, tone, structure and the response you need from the reader.

06

Refinement and final version

You review the draft and provide the agreed feedback. The final version is then supplied for you to use. You remain responsible for checking factual accuracy and deciding whether to send it.

What helps the process

  • A clear deadline
  • The name or role of the recipient
  • The outcome you want
  • Key facts in date order
  • Relevant previous communication
  • Any points that must be included

What you remain responsible for

  • Checking names, dates and factual accuracy
  • Keeping original evidence and documents
  • Deciding whether and when to send the wording
  • Obtaining legal or regulated advice where needed
  • Meeting official deadlines
  • The final use of the work supplied
The first enquiry does not need to be perfect.
